The 3rd China International Small and Medium Enterprises Fair and Sino-Italy Small and Medium Enterprises Fair(CISMEF), jointly sponsored by China National Development and Reform Commission, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Commerce, State Administration for Industry and Commerce, China Banking Regulatory Commission, and People¡¯s Government of Guangdong Province and Italian Ministry of Productive Activities, will be held grandly in Guangzhou, China, from September 15 to 18, 2006.
The 1st and 2nd CSMEF have built up a platform for small and medium enterprises to display their products, promote trade, exchange information, and enhance cooperation in the areas of economic and trade communication, finance and training. 5361 booths were set up in the 2nd China Small and Meduim Enterprises Fair and Sino-France Small and Meduim Enterprises Fair, with joint sponsorship of relevant French departments. 3522 enterprises from China¡¯s 30 provinces, autonomous regions, municipalities directly under the Central Government, Hong Kong SAR, Macao SAR and Taiwan, and 160 enterprises from France participated in the fair. 198,000 people attended the fair as visitors, exhibitors, or purchasers. 23,000 trade, cooperation or investment agreements were signed, with a total volume of 42.6 billion yuan. The 2nd CSMEF laid a solid foundation for the 3rd CISMEF to become an international economic and trade communication fair with stronger transaction function, richest resources, most complete kinds of commodities, and largest size.
Guangdong Province is one of the strongest economies and ranks the first in overall economic strength in China. Guangdong is the most developed province in transportation in China, with sophisticated facilities. 21 prefecture-level cities of the whole province have access to expressway. In the province, there are six airports, including Guangzhou New Baiyun International Airport, which is one of the three aviation hubs of China, Shenzhen Airport, and Zhuhai Airport, 150 ports, and more than 3000 harbor berths. Guangdong has sea routes to more than 1100 ports of over 130 countries and regions in the world. Guangdong is among the biggest manufacturing bases in the world, with well-developed industry chain. The whole province has built up a large manufacturing system and formed the industrial clusters of electronic information, electric mechanics, petroleum chemistry, iron & steel, automobile and light industry, which are composed of about 400,000 industrial enterprises. In the area of financial industry, Guangdong has provided convenience to foreign investors with the presence of 11 foreign banks, including Credit Suisse Bank, Bank of East Asia and Standard Chartered Bank. Small and meduim enterprises in Guangdong have developed rapidly in such advantageous environment. Up to 2005, about 900,000 enterprises in industries of chemistry material and product, plastic product, nonmetal mineral product, metal product, electric machine and equipment manufacturing, and communication equipment and computer manufacturing, have created over 70% of Guangdong¡¯s industry added value, profit and tax, and provided 90% employment opportunities of the province. The local governments have set up the one-stop-service mechanism in banking, taxation affairs, and establishment of factories or companies, which is convenient for business people and creates favorable environment for the start-up and development of small and meduim enterprises.
